The Starfish

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said ” I made a difference for that one.”
Proverbs 24:12 "Once our eyes are opened, we can't pretend we don't know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows that we know and holds us responsible to act."

Adoption approved in Taiwan!!!

We received word last night that our case was heard in Taiwan and our adoption has been approved!!!  Joy is now officially Joy Hsin Yi Dwyer!
It is so surreal to announce your new child, a child that you have never met.  God placed her in our heart over a year ago, and now Taiwan is placing her in our home.  Wow!
We have not received our travel approval yet, but are told it may be as soon as March! Yikes!!!  We are still working on paying the remaining agency fee and now have to pay for travel!  ( stay tuned for an awesome raffle we are working on :)
Oh my, we still have to paint the girls' room! lol
Praise God!  and praying for provision.

We skyped with Joy!!!

How cool is that? Part of the Taiwan court's requirement is skype time with your child! The camera in Taiwan was awful so we really only saw sillohuetes but they could see us perfectly. Joy has been practicing her English and told us in English all the things she loves (pizza, cookies, hot dogs, chocolate, ice cream, puppies, running, yellow, cookies) lol. She then showed us how quickly she can put together a rubic's cube! ok, I have never put one together! lol But now Min wants one so she can practice (hmmm, I see a little competitiveness starting).

The SW who did all the interpreting told us that Joy will have to testify in court on Friday about our skype session. I asked Joy if she was nervous and she said "No, I want to be adopted!" Praise the Lord!!!!

I told her I loved her and in a very soft little voice I heard "I love you"! WOW!

school has started!

Well school has officially started and we are all off and running!  Hannah is going to a private christian school this year where she will also be in dual-enrollment with our local college.  My baby is growing up sooo fast!  The remaining crew are in homeschool again with the most awesome co-op "Explorer's of the Truth."   And in addition to homeschooling, prn nursing, etc., etc., I am teaching Marine Biology to the high school and Swimming Creatures to K-4 graders!  We had our first field trip and had approx 50 kids snorkeling at a marine park!  We were blessed to have marine biologists on board to give us a lesson on sharks and theimportance of our water environment.  Waaay cool!  This Friday we are attending another great field trip to Dauphin Island Marine Lab!  I hope to be adding fun pics!!!

We love our water sports!
Our dossier is near completion to be sent to Taiwan for court approval. (We received orphanage approval a few months ago)  So, this means I really need to step up the fundraising! Ugh!   Never having done this before, I can tell you it is a real challenge.  Any ideas appreciated :)

Josiah is 4!

In 2007, a very emaciated baby boy, approx 2 mos of age, was found on the road side in Ethiopia.  A kind person picked him up and brought him to the nearest orphanage for care.  That orphanage turned him away so he was put on a bus that was traveling 4 hrs away to another orphanage, Kidane Mihret "KM."    KM is run but two AWESOME nuns from Malta. Sister Lugardta (the one in charge) has a policyt, she will never turn away a child.  Thank God!  as this little baby was near death.  11/2008 I traveled to Ethiopia and adopted this sweet baby boy.  When I spoke to his caregivers, they told me that Josiah was one of the skinniest babies they had ever received and they had feared the worse.  With diligent care and lots of love, this baby boy is now 4 yrs old and the love of our family.

Happy Birthday Big Boy!
